Q.- Describe the event of Sita’s Swayamvar.
Ans : Sita’s Swayamvar was one of the celebrated events in Bala Kand, which is explained in below :-
1. King Janaka’s Announcement : King Janaka, the ruler of Mithila, was known for his wisdom and devotion. He had a divine bow called Shiva Dhanush in his palace. It was a very heavy and powerful bow given by Lord Shiva. Janaka announced that he would marry his daughter, Princess Sita, to the man who could lift, string, and tie this bow. This became the condition for her Swayamvar (a ceremony where a princess chooses her husband).
2. Arrival of Princes : Hearing this announcement, many kings and princes came from faraway kingdoms to try their strength. They all wanted to win the hand of Sita because she was known for her beauty, grace, and virtue. However, none of them could even move the bow, let alone lift or string it. The bow was so heavy that it took hundreds of men just to bring it to the court.
3. Arrival of Rama with Vishwamitra : At that time, Sage Vishwamitra came to Mithila with Prince Rama and his brother Lakshmana. They were on their way after protecting the sage’s sacrifice from demons. King Janaka welcomed them warmly. When the sage learned about the Swayamvar, he asked Rama to try his luck with the bow.
4. Rama Breaks the Bow : With deep respect, Rama first saluted the bow and then effortlessly lifted it. When he tried to string it, the bow broke into two with a loud sound that shook the earth. Everyone in the court was surprised. King Janaka was overjoyed and declared Rama the winner of the Swayamvar.
5. Marriage of Rama and Sita : After the challenge, Sita came with a garland in her hands and placed it around Rama’s neck, accepting him as her husband. The people of Mithila rejoiced, and King Janaka arranged a grand wedding ceremony. The gods showered flowers from the sky in celebration. Thus, Rama and Sita were united in a divine marriage, marking the beginning of their sacred journey together.
